Still Thankful

Thanksgiving has come and gone and there has been so much to be thankful for:

  • For God, who saved me, loves me and cares about me.

  • Good friends

  • A loving family

  • Provision making it day to day.

Thinking about good things and praising God in thanks is one thing but God just wants us to be a thankful people: 1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

This does not mean we have to thank God when things are going wrong (even in the rough times when God had to chastises me I was not necessarily thankful for the chastising itself but that because I was chastised it reminded me I still belonged to Him) but that we are to maintain our thankful attitude towards God in all situations:

  • Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, [therewith] to be content.-Philippians 4:11

  • 1Ti 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

  • Hbr 13:5 [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

  • 1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Be thankful where you are with what you have seems almost un-American but being happy and thankful with what God has given you is the starting point for something more than this “American Dream” (and there is nothing wrong wanting a good job and a nice place to live, but let’s keep things in order). This is a starting point down a life that will bring more peace and joy as we follow God. God wants a thankful people (and we only have to see how God dealt with
Israel in the wilderness to see how displeased He is with those who are not thankful.

Just something to think about.
