The question is how can two theories of thoughts that contain opposite thought, theories, and beliefs both be right. For the sake of argument and to avoid unneeded distractions to the thought process we will call on Christianity the other Ba’alism.
- Christianity says we are saved by grace alone by faith only in the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-10) while Ba’alism says while we are saved by faith; we must do good works and not sin to keep our salivation.
- Christianity says Jesus Christ is the virgin born Son of God and as such is sinless and the perfect substitutionary sacrifice for our sins while Ba’alism teaches Jesus as the last prophet or one of many teachers or gods.
- Christianity teaches Christ died for our sins and rose on the third day for our justification while Ba’alism teaches that it was not Jesus on the cross or He did not really arise from the dead but the disciples stole His body.
There are many other things that we could go into at this time but just looking at these three points that any evangelical Christian would say is true (saved by grace only, Jesus is the virgin born Son of God, that Jesus is died in our place to be the sacrifice for our sins) and that Ba’alism does not teach this and to state the obvious that both cannot be true can lead to all kind of wild accusations from being intolerant (see an earlier post explaining that here) to being a bigot and while that my work for you, it does not work for me to which I respond:
The response to this is usually one of stunned silence followed by the obvious: everyone knows 2+2=4. Well, 4 may work for you as an answer but I like 5 better. After pointing out to me the obvious flaw in my deductions in my reasoning (4 is a fact, not an opinion. If I have 2 bananas and get 2 more bananas to add to it, I have 4 bananas and no amount of arguing will make it five) Right, and either the Bible is true or it is not. And if we are going to claim to be followers of Jesus we have to take all of it as true. I would rather keep all the money I make but I give a tithe and beyond as God prospers because God’s Word says I should. And when Jesus says:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. –John 14:6
That is it, God has made it plain and we need to come by the way of Jesus to get to the Father in Heaven, but He will not force us, we can choose another way:
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. –Matthew 7:13-14
We can choose our own path to our own destruction or His path, which leads to everlasting life.
It is our choice. And once we choose we need to stick with it, showing others the striaght and narrow way. A famous preacher once said people out to trip over our bodies in our efforts to keep them out of Hell. It is a chilling thought. Are they tripping over me and my attitutes for Christ or against Him.
Just something to think about.
