By faith Noah, having been warned by God of things not yet seen, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

(Heb 11:7)

By faith Noah –

It is less difficult to see that Noah must have been influenced “by faith” than that Abel and Enoch were. Everything which Noah did in reference to the threatened deluge, was done in virtue of simple faith or belief of what God said. It was not because he could show from the course of events that things were tending to such a catastrophe; or because such an event had occurred before, rendering it probable that it would be likely to occur again; or because this was the common belief of men, and it was easy to fall into this himself. It was simply because God had informed him of it, and he put unwavering reliance on the truth of the divine declaration. It is interesting that Noah was told by God to build an ark for a coming deluge when it had never even rained previously. The earth at the time was watered by a mist that came up not rain that came down.

are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

(Gen 6:8-9)

We can remember another with this testimony? Enoch, his great grandfather. We cannot underestimate the value of a godly liniage. Each person must come to God himself but our influance in the matter can go on for generations! Our children, grandchildren, even our great grandchildren!

He also walked with God

He found grace. It is amazing what we find when we walk with God

Brussel Sprout Christians: I was joking with Chris about lent and I was going to give up brussel sprouts for lent. I have eaten the stuff a grand total of twice in my life and doubt if I would have ever eaten it again anyway. I fell under great conviction about this, there are too many brussel sprout christians out there who want the benefits of a walk with God without any sacrafice. We need to remember the Word of God through His servant David:

2 Sam 24:24 – 25

24 Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25 And David built there an altar to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel.

How many of us would have said “Oh boy! This is great! The Lord gets a sacrafice and I keep my money. Wrong frame of reference, it is not yours, but Gods. People from time to time ask me about buying them something for them and there is nothing wrong with that, even with what they are asking for, but unless God tells me to do it, I don’t move. God says:

2 Cor 9:6-7

7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver .

I do not give out of necessity, there are a great many needs and limited funds, not grudingly with a stingy attitude, but I give as I purpose in my heart to follow God in giving as He directs.

So we need to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and gives as He leads.

Warned by God:

χρηματίζω chrēmatizō

G5536; to utter an oracle (compare the original sense of G5530), that is, divinely intimate; by implication (compare the secular sense of G5532) to constitute a firm for business, that is, (genitive) bear as a title: – be called, be admonished (warned) of God, reveal, speak.

Noah did so, according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

(Gen 6:22)

This is the great secret of Noah. Like Mary told the the servants when she asked Jesus about the wine: whatsoever He saith unto you do it…we need to just do it.

Thus did Noah –He prepared the ark; and during one hundred and twenty years preached righteousness to that sinful generation, 2Pe_2:5. And this we are informed, 1Pe_3:18, 1Pe_3:19

, etc., he did by the Spirit of Christ; for it was only through him that the doctrine of repentance could ever be successfully preached. The people in Noah’s time are represented as shut up in prison – arrested and condemned by God’s justice, but graciously allowed the space of one hundred and twenty years to repent in. This respite was an act of great mercy; and no doubt thousands who died in the interim availed themselves of it, and believed to the saving of their souls. But the great majority of the people did not, else the flood had never come. Only 8 were saved. Noah, Joan (of ark, Noah’s wife ;), his three sons and their wives.Noah did what God instructed him to do but he still went through the storm.

Not just 40 days and 40 nights of the storm + 150 days + 150 more days while the waters subsided + 40 days till Noah opened the window + 14 days till the dove retuned with the olive branch = 394 days. Noah and his family was on the ark over a year, but God did bring them through the storm. God will bring us through the storms and trials of our lives but on His timetable not ours. We need to stay faithful and obediant to God and thus walk closely with Him. It will cost us but it will be worth it in the end. God blessed Noah and his family.

And God blessed Noah and his sons. And He said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon the animals of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon all that moves on the earth, and upon all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herb. But you shall not eat of flesh with the life in it,

or the blood of it. and surely the blood of your lives will I require. At the hand of every animal will I require it, and at the hand of man. At the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. Whoever sheds man’s blood, his blood shall be shed by man; for He made man in the image of God. And you be fruitful and multiply. Bring forth abundantly in the earth, and increase in it. And God spoke to Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, Behold! I, even I, establish My covenant with you, and with your seed after you; and with every living creature that is with you, of the birds, of the cattle, and of every animal of the earth with you; from all that go out from the ark, to every animal of the earth. And I will establish My covenant with you. Neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood. Neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between Me and you and every living creature with you, for everlasting generations: I set my rainbow in the cloud. And it shall be a token of a covenant between Me and the earth. And it shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud. And I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the rainbow shall be in the cloud. And I will look upon it that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said to Noah, This is the token of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

(Gen 9:1-17)
