1 Peter 2:1-3 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, (2) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: (3) If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
All evil speakings
G2636 katalalia From G2637; defamation: – backbiting, evil speaking. -Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries
Backbiting, whisperings, detractions, hurting one another’s characters by innuendos, false charges, and evil surmises; which is not acting like men that are made new creatures, and are partakers of the divine nature, nor like brethren, or as Christ’s little ones, and who are of God.
This even includes what I call “religious gossip.” You know what I am talking about. Pastor, I need you to pray for John, and proceed to gossip about him for half an hour. My guidelines are this:
- Pray for him before coming to me.
- Share in a spirit of love and humility.
- Only share what is needed, I don’t need all the gory details.
And all means all, that is these things should never happen! After all we are suppose to be exhibiting the traits of God, and these are not of God but after the flesh.
We need to be in an active, growing relationship with God. One way to do this is to be in the Word, in the Bible for yourself. A newborn babe requires milk to survive and really cannot live on anything else.
Our cat Midnight just had two kittens. They are so cute and growing so fast. The reason why they are growing is the are feeding on the milk from their mom. They are getting the nutrition they need to not just survive but thrive.
If we fed our physical bodies the same way some of us feed our spiritual man, some of us would be dead! Just like those kittens desire the milk from mom and will just sit there and cry till she comes over and gives it to them, we need to desire the Word and go after it. Read it, study it, meditate on it. They are the words of life. Once we have tasted of the grace of Jesus, and we know from experience the goodness of God, why would we want to drink from any other cup?
