Just Thinking About Jesus

After reading yesterday’s post by Chief of the Least (see the post just below this one) and spending some time meditating on some of the names of my Precious Saviour, Jesus. The Son of Man, The Son of God, The Great I AM, The Lamb of God, The Good Shepherd as well as many more.

There is one Name that has always meant a lot to me and that is He is The Door of the Sheep.

John 10:7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.”

Just before this Jesus was speaking about the Good Shepherd and how His sheep here His voice, but this has another significance.

Just imagine the setting: it is the evening. The sheep have followed the shepherd’s voice out of the pasture and back to the sheepfold, that area that is surrounded by thorny bushes to keep the predators out. Then across the lone opening the shepherd lays down across the entry to rest. Any dangers to the sheep literally must go over the shepherd to to get to them.

There is only one-way in and one-way out of the pen. There is a twofold blessing in this.

First is that there is only one way in for salvation. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but by me (John 14:6). He opens the way for us to enter into eternal life.

Second is that He keeps everything else out. The goats, the wolves, whatever might want to harm the sheep must go over The Shepherd first.

The great comforting thought for me here that if anything wants to come against the child of God it must go through The Good Shepherd first. I pray this thought brings you comfort as well.

May God bless you.
