2 Chronicles 7:13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
Drought, locust, petulance, famine, storms, all these things and more are considered to be judgments of God but we also need to remember that God also used the heathen to judge the people of God. In the book of Judges God used the heathen nations Israel refused to drive out to judge His people when they “did evil in the sight of the Lord.”
It is a popular thought to blame the evil, liberal left for all the woes of our nation but just as God used the heathen nations to judge His people Israel, God is using the liberal left to judge the Christian church for being asleep at the wheel as America has gone “whoring after other gods.” How? We after all are Americans, God’s chosen nation. Two thoughts on this:
Blessed is the Nation Whose Lord Is God
One of the major reasons that this nation has been so blessed over the years is that we are not a democracy, a notion given over to mob rule but a theocratic repressive republic: one nation under God. We learn of things our founding fathers said:
- It is impossible to rightly govern without God and the Bible – George Washington
- Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. –John Adams
I would like to take a little time to consider John Adam’s quote. As long as we were a Christian people, following the Christian ethics, the Constitution worked fine for us, we were a blessed nation, but we have stopped this practice. I would like to point out a verse from Isaiah:
Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
I would like to give two examples of this in action in America today:
- The Abomination we call a lifestyle. Romans 1:26-27 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: (27) And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. We are speaking of homosexuality; in Leviticus it is called an abomination to God. It is not a lifestyle, we are not born that way, and it is plain sin.
- Murder we designate as choice. Exodus 21:22-23 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. (23) And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life. We are speaking of abortion, the murder of the innocent for convince. The word translated fruit means “offspring,” “lad.” Since Roe v. Wade there have been approximately 56 million innocent lives ended by abortion. Their blood cries out as a testimony against us in the ears of God Almighty.
These two are our greatest national sins. The church is so paralyzed by fear of not being “Politically Correct” or afraid of being branded “intolerant” that we do not stand up for the truth. God’s word is truth and must be defended by those who claim His name. This does not mean I hate the sinner, but the sin. I was asked by a homosexual why his sin was so special that it would send him to hell more than any other sin. I explained to this dear person neither homosexuality, murder, lying nor stealing would send a person to hell but the rejection of Jesus as Saviour is the only thing that would send a person to hell. This is so important and cannot be ignored. This is why Jesus died, to save sinners of whom I am chief. This is love. Jesus said greater love has no man than this that he lay down his life for his friends. He added a condition to this: we are His friends if we do whatever He commands us.
However, this does not excuse the general silence of the church on these issues. Just because something has become socially acceptable does not make it morally right. We still have to stand in the gap, be the watchman on the wall crying out the warning. If we fail the blood of the innocent are on our hands. And we have failed and judgment is coming. In my opinion it has started. Our mounting debt is part of it, the aids epidemic is part of it, the increasing number and severity of natural disasters is part of it. We voted for what we wanted as a nation and we got it, and we will reap the consequences of our choices.
Judgment must begin at the house of God. We must weigh ourselves in the balance and find ourselves wanting. That we fall short, that we have missed the mark. We are failing our nation.
So what are we as Christians supposed to do now? That is the next post. Till next time God bless.
